Microarray analysis of unique cDNA sequences in a monarch brain EST library has been performed (Zhu et al., 2009). By treating migrants with a juvenile hormone (JH) analog, it was possible to isolate genes involved in sun compass-oriented flight (not affected by JH status) from those involved in other, JH-dependent aspects of the migration, like reproductive function and longevity. MonarchBase has integrated these migratory profiles to the OGS2.0 geneset.
